I think one of the best things about Washington DC is that even in the winter there are gorgeous places photograph. Hardly any spot is prettier or more iconic than an Engagement Session at the Lincoln Memorial. You’ll have to wake up for sunrise, but if you’ve not watched the sun come up over the city you’re in for a treat! I promise you, there are very few prettier places than the Reflecting Pool on a summer morning.
We spent about an hour wandering around the Lincoln Memorial and then headed over to the DC War Memorial to finish off the session. The War Memorial is also surrounded by a small grove of trees and the lawn in front of it is often filled with clover flowers in the spring. Of course all of this was made even more fun when these two showed up dressed to the nines and brought along their puppy! Basically all of my favorite things combined into one magical photoshoot! Take a look through and I bet you can start picturing yourself standing right there at sunrise too!
There are definitely some tips and tricks when it comes to planning for such an iconic spot. First off – Sunrise is your friend. Less people, easier parking, and the backdrop of the sun rising over the capital building. Depending on the season you might even get the moonrise, or a group of baby ducks floating by. Next up – the Lincoln memorial really lends itself to a dressy moment. So go all out! When we’re done you can go out for brunch and home for a nap – I promise it’s worth it! After that, keep in mind that there isn’t really a place to change, or switch outfits. So wear something you’ll love, or dress with a few layers and accessories! And lastly – we do need a permit, but don’t worry I take care of that for you!
